Disk - bombs, recovering data from - insert a disk that contains the application that created the documents you want to save.  Launch the application then choose Open from the File menu; eject the application disk (one drive system) and insert the problem disk.  If the Mac accepts the problem disk and gives you a list box containing the documents you wish to save, load the documents into memory and save them to another disk.
